Blog World

I'm not a big fan of the private blogs. Alot of people are "going private" as if cyberkooks who wandered onto their sites posed a real threat. Blogs were intended to be a forum for people to paste their thoughts on the world wide web and shoot them off into cyberspace for all to see and comment upon. I got nothin' to hide nor do I particularily care if there are villians who read my posts or not. If they do, I hope they laugh like hell.

By having a private group, I would argue that it's not a "blog" anymore. It is a personal diary with a select group of invited readers. Talk about censorship! People seem to get offended too easily today and I'm sure it happens in blogville too. When I was a kid we had a saying that went like this, "sticks and stones will break your bones, but names will never hurt you."

It's true. Look it up.

My blog is now private because a lot of the content is about my kids. After some of the courses I have taken on child/internet safety, it seemed to be the way to go. I like posting pictures and telling more personal things about them, and I can't do that if I don't know who is looking at them. My blog is open to (almost) anyone who knows me. I wouldn't share certain things with strangers, and I don't want to have to censor myself on my own blog to prevent sharing the same things with random people. My blog is less of a medium to place random thoughts and more to keep my family and friends updated if/when they wish. It's better than an obnoxious Christmas letter listing the 12,000 things my 'amazing and wonderfully talented children' did each month. (You have to insert an eye roll to get the full effect of that comment). My dad has mentioned using it in some sort of family history project. So that is what I'm using it for.

Also, there are certain people who I do not want to come to my blog. They know it exists and have been to it, and I can't say things I would normally say with them there for reasons that are too difficult to explain here. It has nothing to do with offending people (if you're offended, you don't have to read it).

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one, I think. You're still one of my favorite bloggers, despite your public-ness.

I have to admit that the private thing has crossed my mind recently when I received a comment from a man from Portugal and I couldn't understand a word he said, so I visited his blog and it sort of creeped me out. Although there was a language barrier, his photos spoke volumes.

I'm still not private but it may not be long. I agree with Allison, we may have to agree to disagree on this one, we'll see. Love ya.
