Rebels Close Out Season in Top 10

After the Kansas victory over Memphis, I got to thinking....and using some BYU logic, I've determined that UNLV actually ended the year ranked number 6 in the country. It's true, look it up.

Here's how I got there....and it was easy:

#1 Kansas
#2 Memphis They lost to Kansas in the finals.
#3 UNC They lost to Kansas in the National Semi-finals
#4 Davidson They lost to Kansas in regional finals
#5 Villanova They lost to Kansas in regionals
#6 UNLV Barely lost in a thiller so you may want to consider moving them up higher, at least past Davidson. What state does Davidson even play in??????

The Shi'ites shouldnt fret much over their MWC tournament loss. Obviously only the eventual champ could knock us out of the postseason...and BYU is nothing close to an eventual champ.

Dixon--what are you talking about? Assume that Hamga and others join the team (i.e., assume that they can actually spell "UNLV" which I believe is the eligibility requirement for UNLV athletes--no, it's actually "Isaiah"--I forgot), could they remotely compete with KU or Memphis? Not even close. The UNLV fans that think a championship is near have holes in their heads. I agree with you that BYU is nowhere near a championship team; but neither is UNLV. I will hand it to UNLV for their performance in the tourney the last two years. But they are nowhere close to being a national contender. The likes of KU, UCLA, Memphis, and NC are way out of any MWC team's league (literally and figuratively).

I bet your first Rebel memories begin around Rollie Massimino, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt when it comes to being able to judge a real national championship contender.

One thing you got right--BYU bball is nowhere near that point and probably never will be.

Mission accomplished...

Your mission is for me to point out that UNLV is not that good? If so, mission accomplished. But I bet you probably thought your mission was to get me riled up about BYU, but as you see in my message, I admit they suck. Or maybe your mission is to get me to admit that BYU bball sucks. In that case, you have, indeed, accomplished your mission again. Man, this is so confusing. Anyway, congratulations, Dixon.

Let's just agree that BYU sucks and then move on to discuss the greatness of UNLV and Utah sports.

UNLV basketball has a storied history dating back to the days they played at the convention center. I remember when the T & M opened....other teams players jaws would literally drop when they saw the fireworks and the cheerleaders....and the 5 guys who should have been on parole that were in the starting lineup.
It was amazing to know that on every Saturday we had a nationally televised game...for a decade.

Utah football has a history of excellence going to back to the 1940's. In fact, Lee Grosscup invented the "shuffle pass" that is used today in both the pro and college games.

Did you know that Utah has the 10th most winning program in NCAA basketball history including winning the title in 1944? (hey, if BYU counts 1984, we count 1944).

And who can EVER forget the greatness of the 1990-1991 Rebels? If it weren't for that pesky Duke squad led by gay men such as Bobby Hurley, and Christian Laettner, the rebels would have gone 37-0. Even though the Blue Devils won the title that year, everyone on the planet knew who the best team in the land was....UNLV. The same cannot ever be said about the '84 coogs. C'mon Andrew, quit drinking the koolaid, and buck up to the diet coke bar. You know it's true.

Look it up.

Predictions for UNLV next year.
1. UNLV beats BYU at the Marriot Center and all the complaining about home court advantage at the Mack will finally end.
2. UNLV goes undefeated in the MWC.
3. UNLV goes to at least the final 4.

Disclaimer: If none of the above comes true UNLV will still go further in the Tournament than BYU proving that the Rebels are still the better team, so who cares.

I don't care about 1984. I was 9. The only think I cared about in 1984 was whether I should ride my bike to school. Don't complain to me about 1984. Complain to the AP and UPI voters. UNLV bball was awesome in the day. I loved it. They are good now, but they are light years away from where they were.

Go Thunderbirds and Wolverines!!!!

and thank you Keith for talking my husband out of sod cutting our backyard himself. I thought he was crazy to do all of that work! I would hire you to personally come over and tend to our yard every week but I'm afraid we couldn't afford you.
